Speaking to the Spider
Posted on May 7th, 2009 No commentsTonight in my evening shower meditation, I experienced an unexpected exchange; with a spider.
Suspended across from the shower head is a brown house spider. It had moved in two weeks prior as Spring began. At first when I noticed it dropping down from an invisible web I had made an arrangement with it. After a quick jump, I asked that it stayed high in its web while I showered, and I in exchange will let it stay and eat all the bugs it can catch. Now for the past two weeks we have kept our agreement. Each of us on the opposite side of the shower enjoying the steamy goodness of tension release.
My daughters noticed our shower guest yesterday, and I had to relay the contract. Much to their discomfort the girls understood the agreement, and consequently shower times have decreased. All is right with the world.
I am at a cross roads in my life. It is an accumulation of decisions that has now come to a need to choose a new path. I have asked my guides for guidance. I asked for no subtlety; some direct answers please, I have requested.
Today the animals have been speaking. First a dive bombing chickadee, then a slow moving turtle, and now the spider. I lean my head back in the water and let the heat melt the tension from my neck, asking for release of the daily pressures. After my ritual meditation, in a deeply tranquil state I open my heavy eyes to the shower spider pointing in my direction. It feels like home rings in mind and becomes a mantra. My intuitive voice begins “What does a spider represent?” I answer verbally “Infinity- the figure eight shaped body”. “What do spiders do?” the internal voice echoes. “They stay still, they build a strong foundation, and they allow prosperity to come to them.” I reply. I ask out loud, give me direction. “ She replies, “Corey, you will have your web knocked down , you will rebuild it and make it stronger, you then allow your bounty to be caught by what you have built.”
“I thank you, for your information and your kind words.” I say to the spider as it climbs upward to it suspension and begins to bring its front legs to it mouth. I begin to think what is the significance to its legs. “Eight legs, four joints per leg, 8-4. August 4th?” I guess we will see.
Twenty years ago, I would have run screaming from the shower. Ten years ago, I would have relocated the spider to the outdoors. Today I am showering and speaking to the spider. Evolution is an astonishing thing. Honoring the light in all, and listening to the subtleties around us brings us peace and gives us window into our very souls. I will continue to listen to the speaking environment around me, open and aware of the cues that presents themselves.
My Guest, My Guide
This is a Cellar Spider when disturbed it spins wildly. This is significant to me, and how guidance and the intuitive voice works. A representation of Infinity my master guide, the spinning of automatic writing and its ability to bounce back and rebuild.
